INFONTEK IT2000 Universal Programmer
For Winbond/ISD ChipCorder and WTS701 programming

System Overview:

The Infontek IT2000 Universal Programmer is a stand-alone system supporting both analog and digital programming for all ChipCorder and other Multi-Level Storage(MLS) based devices. It is designed to be independent of PC operating systems for its operation and extensible to any future MLS-based devices from Winbond. The system utilizes project data stored on interchangeable CompactFlash memory cards. The programmer interprets the project sequence, converting digital data to analog recording signals (when necessary), providing control and sensing for eight devices, and returning information to the operator via LED indicators and voice prompts. To cover the wide range of device and package types, the eight sockets are carried on interchangeable socket cards which provide individual socket voltage regulation and current sensing. For development use, the Infontek IT2000 programmer can also be controlled by an RS232 link to a PC. PC project software is provided for setting up programming projects and loading the CompactFlash memories with appropriate control and data files, but the PC need not be connected to the programmer for operation.

Project software:

All ChipCorder and other MLS-based devices need a data file for the devices programming. The Infontek 2000 programmer supports the PC project software to create the data files and then downloads the files to the CF card. The project software performs several functions as following:

  • Project
    • Open and save project files to disk or the CF card.
    • Add or remove files from a project or to print a listing of the project.
    • When the system is in prompt editing mode, the files saves and saves as functions refer to prompt sets rather than the current project file.
  • Options
    • Project setting,
      • Organization of .wav files (mono, 16 bit, PCM format) into projects and concatenation lists.
      • Auditing of recorded segments, and of concatenations to verify proper prosody.
      • Computation of exact address based on chip type and sample rate.
    • Prompts setting, allowing the creation or opening of a set of voice prompts
    • Environment setting, to set basic parameters such as serial port, CF drive letter, and update limitations
  • Update: this menu item launches a logon to a Winbond-supplied Internet site containing the latest firmware and software files. The system checks for later revisions of code appropriate to the programmer hardware.
  • Programmer: allows PC control of the programmer hardware via an RS232 link to execute the following tasks:
    • Record/test – initiates the same sequence as the operator’s button
    • Test EOM – initiates just the EOM portion of the testing.
    • Test play – initiates the brief audio test of each socket according to the autoplay length, starting phrase and phrase sequencing options.
    • Play all -- plays all files on the chip in their entirety.
    • Erase device – essentially, writes a silent file to the entire chip, thereby removing all EOM bits.

Socket adapters:

Infontek provides sixteen different adapter boards with appropriate sockets to enable the user to program ChipCorders and WTS701 product.

Programmer hardware:

The system hardware comprises:

  • A main unit that supports all device types.
  • A replaceable CompactFlash memory used to store all project data.
  • A separate 8 ohm speaker for the audio monitor connected via a 3.5mm phone plug.
  • An input: 100V~240V, 50~60Hz, output: 1.5A, 9V universal input regulated supply with concentric plug (5.5mm barrel, 2.5mm pin).
  • A range of socket cards to suit the various device and package types available. Currently 14 such cards are required to cover the range.
  • A DB9 to RJ12 adapter cable for the optional PC control.
  • A 3rd party CF reader device.

Power supply:

The programmer hardware requires an external power supply such as the one offered by Infontek. Should you prefer to use another type, please ensure that it meets the following requirements.

Output voltage: 9 V DC
Current: 560 mA minimum

PC System Requirements:

  • PC with Windows 95, 98, 98SE, ME, NT, 2000, or XP
  • Infontek IT2000 PC software
  • CompactFlash reader/programmer (or built-in equivalent)
